Laura Stagno
Laura Stagno is a Venezuelan artist and Illustrator. Having majored in Painting and Graphic Arts at the Armando Reverón Art Institute of Caracas. After exentistive work she was accepted to complete a masters degree in Animation in Tokyo, Japan at the Musashino Art University. After having spent 10+ years living and learning in Tokyo, Laura had developed a deep appreciation and passion for Japanese culture. a passion that had flourished during her studies at MAU and has come to majorly influence her. The key to Laura's vision can be accredited to the time she had spent in Tokyo. Laura has illustrated a dozen of children’s books and worked as the exclusive illustrator of a Tokyo Design Studio for a long time.

Laura's work can be categorized as bright, warm, light-hearted, or uplifting. The use of bright and vibrant colors with a combination of cute and endearing character designs and stories makes for an enjoyable. She creates her illustrations by cutting paper prints to represent anything from household objects to vast landscapes. These patterns come from a variety of textured objects or clothing found in traditional Japanese households. Unlike many artists around the world influenced by Japanese "trend" culture like manga or anime, Laura takes a much more holistic approach and connects to the rich sources of Japanese culture and history. In an appreciation of the language, history, and artistic practice Laura uses many unknown or overlooked parts of Japanese culture to build her illustrations and storytelling.

She recently settled in Barcelona, Spain where she is now working her her studio on various new digital projects. She hopes to expand her brand independently because she believes blockchain technology can facilitate a more free and equitable economic balance for the arts.

KOKESHI ISEKAI The Process Laura combines analog and digital techniques in her artwork to create those particular atmospheres that transport you into a parallel dimension of sensations.
To compose the base of the characters and landscapes she uses crayon and ink drawing, printmaking and collage. She then uploads her work and digitally combines it with layers of carefully scanned Japanese textiles with heavy brocade weaves called Nishijin-ori, (Nishijin weaving is known for its highly-decorative and finely-woven designs, created through the use of tedious and specialized production processes. It is well-regarded for the high quality and craftsmanship of the resulting fabrics, commonly used for high-quality obi (kimono belts) and kimono).
These artworks are the meeting point between craftsmanship and technology, coming upon a result that wouldn’t be possible with only one of them. It is a process that requires a lot of attention to detail and it takes time and dedication to complete.

In the background you can see that process in her new project Kokeshi Isekai.
